Tue 21 Apr kl 11:00 - Tue 5 May kl 15:00
Älvsbyn Library, Skolgatan 23C
“Other Art” is an exhibition showcasing the remarkable creativity that often takes place quietly, yet all around us. Curiosity and a desire to explore are the driving forces. This is an art world known by many names: Outsider Art, Art Brut, folk art, self-taught, autodidactic art, naïve art.
“If I do this – I wonder what will happen?”
It is often a daring mix of materials – you use what you have. New techniques are explored by artists with a unique ability to think outside established frameworks. And we are helped to see the world with new eyes.
The need to create cuts across socio-economic, religious, ethnic, class, and age barriers, as reflected in the diverse audiences. The right of everyone to be creative is a guiding principle.
For 25 years, Borghild Håkansson and Staffan Backlund have been engaged in this multifaceted and poetic form of creation. They have produced several regional exhibitions and a Nordic touring exhibition aimed at highlighting and generating interest in this parallel, yet often overlooked, art world.
The exhibition consists of a smaller selection from their collection, parts of which have been shown at the Gothenburg Museum of Art. It inspires personal creativity and broadens and deepens the discussion of what counts as art.
Let the act of creating, playfulness, and the joy of coming together take precedence over skill and proficiency!
The exhibition is open during the library’s opening hours and is free to visit.
