Medborgargatan 2. Andromeda at Forum (cinema hall)
In the town of Bergaby, nothing is as it used to be. Once upon a time, the mighty Tow King hosted wonderful discos, where even the scrappiest vehicles in town could flash their lights and swing their bodies for a while. But now he has closed the gates to the hall, and no one knows where he has gone.
The combine harvester Hjördis and the garbage truck with a Scanian dialect set out to search for him. But what can two small, rickety vehicles do to help the Tow King?
This is the plot of a heartfelt and groovy musical fairy tale about soft feelings inside hard machines. It is aimed at the youngest children, ages three to six, and is told by Norrbotten-based artists Bo Selinder, Lotta Karlsson, and pianist Robert Råberg.
They offer a musical moment that will hopefully spark both exciting thoughts and joyful feelings among the children in the audience.
This musical fairy tale was created with inspiration from preschool children in Älvsbyn, Karungi, and Gällivare. Through play, creativity, and conversations, they helped shape the story of the Tow King and his friends.
The musical fairy tale In the Tow King’s Hall was created by the same Norrbotten cultural collective behind the musical sea adventure Kom öde ö rädd (“Come Deserted Island Rescue”) and the music theater piece Skillingnytt, where old memories are brought back to life.
Bo Selinder is the group’s composer, and his unique style—filled with “serious humor”—has earned both admiration and awards.
Together with singing actress Lotta Karlsson and her ability to meet and engage people, he reaches thousands of children every year (and quite a few adults) with music, performing arts, and the vital importance of play.
Also part of all their creations is director Kjell Peder Johanson, whose warm heart and vast experience from more than 50 years in theater bring depth to the productions. Artist Fanny Felicia Svanberg contributes her distinctive touch of both beauty and scruffiness (with the occasional twist…) in scenography and illustrations.
The musical fairy tale is produced by Kind Exploring with support from Region Norrbotten, the Greta Foundation, Gällivare Municipality, Älvsbyn Municipality, Haparanda Municipality, among others.
Target audience: Children aged 3–6 with families. The performance takes place on the cinema stage.
